I was born to draw at the age of 0 in Sioux City Iowa. At the age of 10 my father moved the family to Los Angeles California and I had a close encounter with Mickey Mouse. Mickey and I bonded on sight and I knew from that moment on that I would draw cartoons for a living. After high school I joined the U.S Air force because it seemed like the right thing to do. It turned out to be the wrong thing to do. I spent four years chasing chicks and drinking beer, which when you are 18 seems likethe right thing to do.
I traveled the world as a flyboy, but didn't learn much. I left the Air Force and worked as a file clerk for an Electronics Co. in San Gabriel California...another wrong thing to do. Then I went to Art school. I enrolled at Chouinard Art Instutute in Los Angeles because I learned that Disney trained his animators there. I quickly became aware that the stuff being done in the Illustration Dept. was a lot more interesting than the animation stuff...so I switched over to illustration and graduated with a BFA and a portfolio full of artsy-fartsy Illustration samples. I went to work as a studio Illustrator in Detroit, Michigan. How I got there is a story that needs its own web page. I worked in studios for ten years and then hung out my shingle and went free lance. It worked out. I had a long and for the most part lucrative career as an advertising Illustrator. I did some editorial work for magazines and books. I even did some naughty Illustrations for Playboy magazine in the early 70s. Now I paint impressionistic landscape paintings that I sell in art shows all over the midwest. I also work digitally on the Mac. The cartoons on this web page are a result of my flirtation with the computer. I have been told that I have a slightly twisted sense of humor probably as a result of drinking too much beer when I was in the Air Force. I think that is a good thing (the slightl;y twisted sense of humor, not the beer drinking) If you have not clicked off into cyberspace by now you must still be interested, so to see the full range of my work you can visit my other web site by clicking here. This will open a new browser window so that you can easily return to catcartoons.com to look at the cartoons. |
